Presidential Distinguished Service Award for the Irish Abroad

The Government of Ireland has introduced a new system, the Presidential Distinguished Service Award for the Irish Abroad, to provide State recognition for persons living abroad, primarily Irish citizens, those entitled to Irish citizenship and those of Irish descent, who have made a sustained and distinguished service to Ireland and/or Irish communities abroad. The Award will not be an honours system and will not confer any legal entitlements or benefits upon the recipients, including a right to Irish citizenship. No more than 10 Awards will be presented by the President at an annual awarding ceremony. Deadline for application 25 May 2012

The Passport Service in Dublin has asked us to remind all citizens in Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Algeria to check their passports now. The busy summer season has arrived and processing times can take up to 4-6 weeks from receipt of your application. We advise all citizens to submit applications in plenty of time before travel.
